![]() Not only does it possess all the features of the online version, but it provides fully customizable text boxes, 12 templates and extra layouts. The real success, however, is found in the downloadable PC-only editor. Unfortunately this means that there are few customization options available, but this is more than made up for by the unique options to use PDF files as the basis for the book, turn the photo book into eBook format or upload the finalized product to Blurb’s own online store and earn money by selling it. The online builder is recommended for those who want to put together a very simple photo book. Blurbīlurb is one of the few photo book companies that offer the choice to create your photo book either in an online editor or with the downloadable software. However, thanks to a wide variety of (mostly temporary) coupons and discounts, a free online copy of the ordered book, and super-fast shipping, MILK Books’ value for money is one of the best on the market. This top-notch quality comes at a price, though: even the smallest, most basic, 40-page book costs $57. These books are even available in all sorts of shapes – square, landscape and portrait – and they cover virtually all sizes. Secondly, MILK Books come with premium linen covers by default, which can be upgraded to even finer materials without paying an extra amount. First of all, pages are stitched instead of being glued, and even the simplest of available photo paper is fingerprint-resistant. Granted the software may not too convincing, but the final printed products definitely are. However, don’t let the editor’s primitive nature deceive you, because it does include some advanced features: for instance, the program warns users about any low-resolution photos, while layouts can be changed with keyboard commands. Contacted Blurb by email, got answer back: home printouts are 1/6 size of the book.Whereas most photo printing companies provide builders with which creating the desired product is always a pleasure, the online editor of MILK Books is rather bland, even compared to its smaller competitors. I'll respond to my own query since no one else has. ![]() Is it a printer problem or something more serious? My pgs are printing out smaller than the dimensions in the blog - 8 3/4" W xy 7 1/2" H. I'm printing out some pgs on my printer to get an idea of how the pg will look. The pg listing book dimensions is very helpful but still leaves me w/a question. You have to set it up using a dual page template (which I think that site has), and then produce two unique jpg images. I was able to do a dual page panorama in my first book. I use a dual screen monitor layout (And unless you have a huge moniter, I highly reccomend you try it for making Blurb Books), so I just put Picasa in the right screen, and BookSmart in the left. 2/free-blurb-t.įor the rest of the book, I love using Google Picasa. I believe this is one of the most used sites for Photoshop/InDesign Templates: Really, with Photoshop or InDesign, you can layout your book however you want. Very time consuming, but it's the only way to expand your design past book smarts limitations. I used a photoshop template for 120 single page titles for my 8 x 10 book. You have to allow for 1/4 inch trim don't forget.Īs for using Blurb's Software Vs using Templates. I encourage anyone still hesitating to give it a go! I have stopped many times to do other things (laundry, etc.) and it's so easy to do these once you have your images in a new folder and ready to go. I am about 30 minutes from finishing a wedding book that I just started less than 2 hours ago. Well I tried a template and just decided it's easier to use blurb software. Yeah, here's a page that spells it all out: So if I figure this right, and I were to design pages in my basic photoshop program at the suggested 10x8 measurements, taking into account the 1/8 bleed cut, wow, my pages would sure be hacked off if the book really isn't 10x8. As for top to bottom, the cover is almost 8 inches, but inside again, falls short. It's suppose to be a 10x8, yet, the width inside from binding to edge barely measures 9.25 and the exterior cover comes up almost at 9.75. Now, I'm no math whiz, but simple ruler tells all. ![]() So I have my first Blurb book (can't post since it's a Christmas gift and I don't want to risk someone seeing it).īut I just went and measured it.
